Please think carefully about the following three questions; they're an important part of your application.

Each response should be in English and should not exceed 250 words.

1 Briefly list your three most significant interests and activities, including any employment or volunteer work experience. Note the time you devote to each activity, during which grades you participated, and your main responsibilities. Describe why one of these interests or activities is so important to you, your reasons for becoming involved in it, and your related accomplishments.

招生官希望申请者通过这三项活动或者爱好来展现自己的专注、领导力和热情(commitment, leadership, and passion)。这里列举的活动或者爱好,都是你为之投入大量时间,并且可能在其中担任重要角色或者获得重要奖励的。(在做第一题以前,建议先浏览第二题和第三题的题目,尽量避免重复使用相同的经历。)

针对每项活动,需要提供做过的最高职务的具体名称(例如,不要写“校电视台成员”或者“校篮球队队员”,而是要写“校电视台编导”或者“校篮球队队长”),时间跨度和频率(包括几年级,每年大约多少周,每周大约多少小时。例如,每周大约50分钟或者70分钟,可以估算为1个小时,但要符合实际情况,不是越多越好),具体活动和成就描述(提供关于个人的活动信息和数字信息,尽量简明具体,使用动态动词,例如,避免使用responsible for或者in charge of,而用supervise, manage, coordinate, network, facilitate等功能明确的动词)。

原稿:Member, School Charity Club (Grade 11) – Responsible for organizing programs to raise charity funds.

修改:Publicist, School Charity Club (6 hours per week, 8 weeks per year, Grade 11) – Coordinated 12 teammates, 500+ students, and 3 local enterprises, to promote the student-run charity events which receive more than $ 2,000 worth of donations annually.

原稿:Pianist (Grades 1-10) – Practiced piano, attended rehearsals, won prize in the city contest,

修改:Pianist (3 hours per week, 45 weeks per year, Grades 1-10)  Performed in middle-school and high-school orchestras, received certification for Level 9 from The Central Conservatory of Music, and won a second prize in the city contest in grade 10.

 

根据命题,申请者在列出三项重要的活动或者爱好以后,还需要从中挑选出一项活动或者爱好,回答如下问题:

1)你如何对这项活动或者爱好产生兴趣,为什么会投入其中?

2)你通过参与活动或者开拓兴趣,从中获得哪些受益,包括活动本身涉及的知识、能力和技巧?

3)你通过参与活动或者开拓兴趣,已经取得哪些成就(大到全国奥数一等奖,小到学会弹奏巴拉基列夫改编的钢琴曲《云雀》)?

4)这些活动或者爱好帮助你塑造了什么性格、品质或者价值观,对你的人生产生了怎样的影响?

2 A personal statement will help us to get to know you better. What distinguishes you from your classmates and peers? What do you expect to gain from Summer College and to accomplish during the program?

在自己或者亲友看来,你是一个什么样的人?你有什么样的突出品质、性格、才能或者技艺?在形成和发展这些品质或者才艺的过程中,遇到过什么样的挑战或者机遇?(在做第二题以前,建议先浏览其它题目,尽量避免重复使用相同的经历。)

我们可以利用下面的问题,来启发思路:

1)你认为生活中什么价值观或者事物很重要?(三项)

2)你对什么充满热情?(三项)

3)你参加康奈尔夏校以及某个课程期间,最想取得什么收获?(三项)

根据上述思考,挑选出有趣、有逻辑、有意义的叙事主线和素材。在文书写作过程中,需要交代清楚的事项包括:

1)你与众不同的地方是什么?

2)它是如何通过挑战或者机遇形成和发展的?

3)它对你有什么意义?

4)康奈尔夏校和课程的哪些教育资源和校园活动,可以帮助你变得更好?

3 Tell us about your interest in the Summer College programs (both choices 1 and 2) you selected in part 1 of your application. Why did you select them? What do you hope to gain from them? Tell us about any personal, work, or volunteer experience you've had related to them.

If you are applying to the RABS program, tell us about a biological research project that you have initiated or participated in.

学生可以申请康奈尔夏校两门课程(programs)。根据已选的choice 1课程和choice 2课程,你需要分别思考以下问题:

1)你决定选择康纳尔夏校的第一(第二)课程是什么?

2)你关于这门课程的兴趣是如何形成和发展的?你在校内有没有上过相关课程,从中有什么受益?你在课堂以外,有没有进一步的学习机会,从中有什么受益?如果没有,也加以解释,并阐述为什么想去康奈尔学习这门课程?

3)你有没有参与相关研究、志愿和/或实践项目的经历?如果有,你什么时间什么地方参加的,你担任什么角色,主要做过什么?这样的经历对于你学习这门课程有什么意义?(尽量避免跟第一题和第二题中提到的内容重复)

4)根据官方资料或者从其它渠道获得的信息,假设自己到校以后,会利用哪些资源(包括师资、课程、研究项目、实习项目、实验室等),最想去学什么?这种学习对于实现自己的学术目标或者人生目标有什么意义?
